Rivers of Living Water was the cry of Jesus… “Come unto Me and I will give you…!” John 7: 37-39 is also a quality of “who we are” at Praise Christian Fellowship… not to be diluted or dismissed! A) That Great Day of the Feast (vs. 37) was the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, when they would travel to Jerusalem and dwell in booths (huts) commemorating the 40 year journey in the wilderness under Moses. Many people expected Jesus to be there, and His appearance polarized them greatly (call it CDS). On the final day of the feast, Jesus cried, B) “Out of your belly will flow rivers of living water”! He is referencing the coming outpouring of the Holy Spirit that would come on the Day of Pentecost. The ritual of the feast had normal ceremonies, that —let’s face it— can often become stale, dry, and mundane. The Pharisees were “going through the motions”, while the moment called for energy, vitality, and C) The Flow of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the only source of continually moving and life-giving enthusiasm. Do you have the flow of the Holy Spirit? Without it we soon can become a stagnant pond or a static lake. Let’s be awakened, stirred, and made alive… to be a river of life to refresh the world around us. It needs it!
