Love, Joy, Peace...

Parables, Proverbs, and Enigmas, #7 “Remember Lot’s Wife”.  This is a proverb of Jesus found in Luke 17: 24-27 as He describes the coming kingdom.  The saying represents a battle and rallying cry much like “Remember the Alamo” of 1898.  It’s reference is to God’s dealing with Sodom in Gen. 19: 1-29.  Lot and his family had become an integral part of Sodom, and he sat as a leader “at the gate”.  The city of Sodom has become a proverb in its own way, being representative of notoriously wicked lifestyle.  God’s dealing with Sodom and Gomorrah was swift and severe.  Instructed to flee and not look back, Lot and his family departed the city.  But Lot’s wife took opportunity to look back, and she was turned into a pillar of salt!  We explored several probing questions that this episode raises.  God had reached the point of action against these cities of wickedness, but He wished to spare the righteous.  The sins of Sodom were complex, and are described in Ezek. 16: 44-50.  Lot’s wife’s identity in Sodom brought her demise.  Remember, heed, and walk to please God.
