Charlie Kirk was A Modern Disciple. But I’m certain he would say that the essence of discipleship is the same as in Jesus’ day. There is not a “cyber substitute” or APP that can do the job of a true disciple. A) Jesus Chose 12 from among many more followers, to be with Him for this necessary task. Among the 4 places that the 12 are listed, we see that He empowered them with authority, He sent them out, He gave them power, and none were a mistake… yet Judas Iscariot betrayed Him. B) A Disciple/An Apostle are unique, in that —a disciple is a learner (from GR “Mathetes); while an apostle simply means “one who is sent”. Religion and the professional class often distort these simple elements as in Matt. 23: 1-12. C) Walk as a Disciple. Jesus spent 3 years primarily walking with these guys, imparting His heart in them. Walking together is the essence of “principle plus process” of becoming a disciple. Our walk is with the church, a step-by-step persisting through trails and trials. If you are a believer… walk with Jesus’ church!
